CENA

CENA

Funding for the Community Expansion of Nutrition Assistance (CENA) program was made available by the Oklahoma legislature through an annual appropriation to the Oklahoma Department of Commerce. The purpose of this program is to increase the number of meals served to seniors at the senior centers. The program allows independent senior centers to repair and replace broken kitchen equipment, HVAC systems, ADA upgrades, fix leaking roofs and provide other needed small capital improvements.

Statewide allocation for 2014 was $2,231,073 awarded to Oklahoma’s 11 Councils of Governments. Grand Gateway EDA utilizes the Area Agency on Aging for distribution to eligible senior center applicants. The funds were used to enhance nutritional needs of senior citizens through the purchase of food, insurance, payment of utilities, maintenance and purchase of equipment, transportation and food preparation. Grand Gateway received $198,761 and assisted 42 designated Independent Senior Centers in Northeast Oklahoma in 2014.
