DISEASE PREVENTION & HEALTH PROMOTION

The Older Americans Act funding for Title III health promotion is a very small amount for Northeast Oklahoma ($24,000). The criteria for program delivery are to provide Evidence-Based Health Promotion activities in a manner which will make it accessible to all senior citizens in Northeast Oklahoma. In 2010, Gateway Area Agency on Aging implemented the health promotion activities in Pryor, Ketchum, Big Cabin and Bartlesville. The four groups meet three times per week for one hour each day. These locations were selected because of different population focus.

Grand Gateway Area Agency on Aging implemented the Enhance Fitness, evidence-based wellness program in Northeast Oklahoma. Training is conducted by Certified Trainers. Enhance Fitness classes are held at the Ketchum Senior Citizens Center, Pryor Creek Recreation Center, First Baptist Church, Big Cabin and Washington County Elder Care, Inc., in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
